The following information is provided to help clients understand common conditions, limitations, and expectations associated with stone countertop fabrication and installation. These considerations are a normal part of working with natural and engineered stone materials and construction environments.
Natural stone materials such as granite, marble, limestone, soapstone, and quartzite are formed by nature. Variations in color, veining, pattern, texture, and shade are inherent characteristics and not defects. No two slabs are identical.
Samples, photos, and showroom displays are provided for reference only and may not represent the exact appearance of the final installed material.
When multiple slabs are required, variation between slabs is normal and expected, even when sourced from the same bundle or lot. While reasonable efforts are made to coordinate visual flow, exact color or pattern matching cannot be guaranteed with natural stone. Engineered surfaces offer more consistency, but minor shade or pattern differences may still occur.
Seams, joints, and transitions are a normal and necessary part of stone countertop installations. Seam placement is determined by slab size, layout, structural requirements, and site conditions. Visible seams are not considered defects.
Edge profiles are a key design and fabrication element of stone countertops. Once an edge profile is selected and the project moves into fabrication, the edge choice is final and cannot be changed. Edges are cut, shaped, and finished during fabrication. Changing an edge after fabrication has begun would require reworking or remaking the stone and may not be possible.
Final responsibility for the approved edge profile rests with the client.
The client is responsible for specifying the desired corner radius for all countertops at the time of selecting the material and edge profile. Corner radius specifications may include square (90°) corners, eased corners, radius corners, or other custom corner treatments.
If not specified by client, Pedma Stone will fabricate countertops in accordance with the selected edge profile and will apply the corner radius that naturally follows and maintains the visual continuity of the chosen edge design.
Decorative edge profiles, including but not limited to ogee, double ogee, or similar profiles, are typically fabricated with softened or rounded corners to preserve the structural integrity of the material and maintain the aesthetic continuity of the edge profile.
Requests for sharp 90-degree corners in combination with decorative edge profiles are considered non-standard fabrication specifications. Such configurations may increase the risk of edge chipping, material damage, and potential safety hazards due to exposed sharp corners.
If the client requests a non-standard corner configuration, including sharp corners with decorative edges, the client acknowledges and accepts all associated risks. Pedma Stone shall not be held responsible for chipping, breakage, or injuries resulting from these requested specifications.
Cutouts and openings for sinks, cooktops, faucets, soap dispensers, garbage disposal switches, pop-ups, plugs, or other accessories are created during fabrication. Once fabrication has begun, the location, size, and number of cutouts or holes cannot be modified. Clients are responsible for approving all cutout locations and accessory placements prior to fabrication.
Walls, cabinets, and floors that are not level, plumb, or square may affect the final fit, overhang alignment, and overall appearance of the installation. These conditions are common in construction and remodeling projects. Pedma Stone is not responsible for pre-existing structural or carpentry conditions but will make reasonable efforts to accommodate them during installation.
Final fabrication is based solely on field measurements and templating completed after cabinets are fully installed, secured, and properly leveled. Measurements, plans, drawings, or PDFs provided by clients prior to field verification are considered preliminary. Changes made after templating may require re-measurement, additional costs, and schedule adjustments.
Overhang dimensions, support requirements, and final fit depend on cabinet construction, wall conditions, and applicable building standards. Due to site limitations, perfect symmetry or exact overhang alignment may not always be achievable. However, reasonable efforts will be made to minimize visibility and achieve the best possible overall appearance.
In installations where countertops are fitted tightly between two walls or enclosed surfaces, close tolerances are required to achieve a proper and clean fit. During this process, damage to adjacent surfaces may occur, including but not limited to painted walls, wood finishes, wallpaper, paneling, or other wall coverings. While care is taken during installation, this type of contact is sometimes unavoidable due to the weight, rigidity, and precision required when setting stone slabs. Pedma Stone is not responsible for repairs or touch-ups to walls or surrounding finishes that may occur as a result of achieving a proper wall-to-wall fit.
Stone fabrication and installation may generate dust during certain phases of the process. While reasonable measures are taken to minimize and control dust, it is not possible to eliminate it entirely. Dust may settle on surrounding surfaces within or near the work area. Clients are responsible for protecting personal belongings prior to installation. Pedma Stone is not responsible for cleaning areas beyond the immediate work zone.
Pedma Stone does not perform plumbing, electrical, or mechanical work of any kind. This includes, but is not limited to: disconnecting or reconnecting plumbing; shutting off or turning on water supply lines; electrical connections or disconnections; installation or wiring of garbage disposal switches, outlets, or appliances. All plumbing and electrical work must be performed by licensed professionals. Pedma Stone is not responsible for delays, damages, or issues related to plumbing or electrical conditions.
Each surface has specific care and maintenance requirements. Natural stone may require periodic sealing, and all materials should be cleaned using appropriate products. Damage, staining, discoloration, fading, or wear caused by sunlight exposure, water, chemicals, heat, or everyday use is considered normal wear and tear and not a material defect.
Additional charges may apply for, but are not limited to: re-measurement due to changes after templating; extra site visits or return trips; adjustments required due to site conditions or last-minute changes; rescheduling or cancellation outside agreed timeframes.
Pedma Stone is not responsible for issues resulting from work performed by third parties, including cabinetry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, appliance installation, or other trades that affect the countertop area.
Hidden or unforeseen conditions discovered during templating or installation may require modifications or additional work. These conditions are a normal part of construction and remodeling projects.
Once an estimate is reviewed and approved, an invoice will be sent via email through QuickBooks. A 50% deposit is required to move forward with scheduling, templating, and fabrication. This initial payment confirms the project and allows work to begin. Upon completion of the project, a final invoice will be issued reflecting the remaining balance. The remaining 50% is due upon completion of installation. All invoices are sent electronically and include a secure payment link.
By approving an estimate or proceeding with a project, clients acknowledge and accept the material characteristics, fabrication limitations, site conditions, and payment terms outlined above.
